Helke has a BA in ancient Near Eastern and Greek archaeology and an MA in physical anthropology from the UofT; her special area of interest is the evolution of disease. Through a serious illness caused by mercury amalgam dental fillings and exposure to pesticides, Helke became aware of the destructive political presence in modern medicine. Upon recovering her health, she opened Kos Publishing Inc. in 2003. Her monthly articles on the politics of medicine have been published in Toronto’s Vitality Magazine, the Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives' Monitor, Corporate Watch, Medical Veritas, and others. Helke will launch her new book on Lyme disease at the show: Ending Denial – The Lyme Disease Epidemic in Canada, and a documentary DVD on Lyme disease will also be available at Booth 215. www.kospublishing.com

| Ending Denial - The Lyme and Chronic Disease Epidemic in Canada |
| Saturday 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM, 203 |
Lyme disease was declared an epidemic by the US Centers for Disease Control in 2008 which announced that approximately 200,000 new cases occur in the US every year. Left untreated, Lyme becomes chronic and is a known cause of Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, ALS, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, scleroderma, fibromyalgia, and autism. Everybody with those diseases should automatically be tested for Lyme bacteria, because a positive test would make many of these devastating illnesses curable with antibiotics. However, in Canada the myth has been forcefully spread that "Lyme disease does not exist in Canada". Most doctors know nothing about it and cannot treat it, even if they obtain training in the internationally known diagnostic and treatment protocols. This situation is primarily due to Health Canada which mandates tests known internationally to be about 90% false negative and because the medical licensing authorities, such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, support the "no Lyme in Canada" myth. Even the Canadian Blood Services - the only blood service among industrialized countries to take this position - ignores the fact that Lyme-infected blood donors are once again compromising our blood supply. A two-hour Q & A event will update you on developments in finally dealing with this disease, protecting doctors against reprisals for treating Lyme patients. Learn what you can do to protect yourself or find treatment that works.
